I have always been drawn to butterflies. They are ornate, intricate, detailed and delicate little creatures that flit in and out of my life creating awe and offering me the opportunity to pause and be grateful for the beauty that surrounds me.

With this turquoise spotted swordtail butterfly I was drawn to the contrast between the bright blues and deep black colors and I absolutely loved the shape of the wings with their long slender tails. I decided to burn many tiny holes to create the black color and construct a rich complex texture. This also added a lightweight feeling to the overall piece as you can see through the wings. It was a different look from my other metal butterfly sculptures but it grew on me and I was happy with how it turned out!

This Turquoise Spotted Swordtail butterfly sculpture is wall hanging, made entirely of stainless steel, colored using only heat patinas, and is safe to be kept outdoors!
